How will it work?
There will be several ways the layout will be able to function.
There will be several ways the layout will be able to function.
- Timetable Running Days: This is where the trains run to prearranged timetables using authentic railway codes. Train drivers and/or station masters will work in unison to conduct the schedule of a realistic working day similar to what would have been seen in the early days of railway operations.
- General Running Days: These are non-organised days for building, testing and maintenance work.
- Special Running Days: These might be novel events such as Thomas The Tank functions for the kids - big and small.
Features
How can this all fit into a train you might ask? The layout will have multiple levels. The six double doors will be extended outside to gain maximum benefit of the layout. Other extensions will also be considered. There will be six main stations, two branchlines and several non-working stations to make-up the sixteen stations and sidings required to make up the Wonthaggi Rail Line. The working area, not counting extensions, is approximately 22m long (107'+) x 3m wide (10'-) x 2.6m high (9'+). (The dog overseeing the scale model is my 24/7 companion, Sasha.)
Below is a scale model showing the track design. More photos soon. Sasha shows the size of the model.
- Over 200 metres of track winding through a mountainous terrain
- A fascinating maze-like walk-through for the general public
- Overhead crossovers, tunnels and secluded passageways
- Ships transporting cargo in miniature oceans and rivers Click on the rail line
- Authentic codes and signalling used throughout the layout
- Miniature plots of land and houses available to purchase
- Publican rights to manage a miniature railway station
- Real Time train driving as viewed from the driver's cabin (not a simulator)
