Current owner of Hitachi 1909T.
This project is the brainchild of Ian Cole. Originally a club was formed with the purpose of raising enough money to acquire the carriage. Unfortunately, community grants have not been not forthcoming, which meant that unless the carriage was acquired privately the project would not have got off the ground. So Ian stepped in and acquired the carriage and financed project at a cost of over $15,000, which included all associated costs over a six-year period. Ian is now building the model railway layout. Ian, who sees himself as caretaker of the carriage, aims to eventually offer the carriage to his club at cost when it becomes possible and have it moved onto crown land. He is donating his time. The project is called Gippsland Historical Model Railway. Any money raised using this name will go into a private account to be spent on equipment needed to continue on with the project. Any money raised using the name Gippsland Historical Model Railway Inc. will go directly into the club's account with the aim of it members purchasing the carriage at some point in the future. Please note that the two names are not connected. The similar names are to ensure that the eventual change of ownership is done with the least disruption.

We're also seeking new members to join our group. The group's task will be to develop a long term plan for the exhibit and within the plan to work out strategies that will ensure the best possible outcome regarding the railway's functionality, historical significance and benefit to the community.
When the railway is fully operational, between 6 and 12 (perhaps more) members will be able to operate the layout at any one time with running sessions being held regularly. People of all ages will learn and benefit from this truly unique historical railway. Open days, excursions, educational programs and film nights are also planned in the future.
Residents of townships situated along the rail line will be invited to form small groups to gather historical information about their respective towns with a view to constructing their own railway station and surrounds. Historians and local historical societies will also be invited to participate.
We're also looking for tradespeople and hobbiests with expertise in dioramas, electronics and computers. For further information contact the President Ian Cole on 0427 553 755 or email him.

- GoFundMe Please donate here to help bring this project to fruition.
Buy a plot of land for $50 Your plot will be displayed on the layout at a location of your choice and also on a display board inside the carriage. Plots are unredeemable but they can be sold at the buying price if or when a buyer is available. - Build a house Have this placed on your plot for a further $100. As with the plots, houses are unredeemable but they can be sold for the buying price if and when a buyer is available.
- Become a publican of a station for $500 This is aimed moreso at businesses. The publican gets to display the business name on a billboard erected at the chosen station. Publican rights last for 5 years. Current publicans are given first choice to retain their rights if another publican is in the queue. If no business or person is in the queue and the current publican does not wish to retain the rights, the billboard will remain as is. Publicans' business names or personal names will also be displayed in a prominent position inside the carriage.
- Buy a tin sign. An arrangement has been made to allow our club to offer high quality metal signs (as shown below) at a much reduced price of $19 ($29rrp) plus postage. Pick-up also available.
